Spring is here, May we grow together

This edition of instock is dedicated to our global creator community and our new partnerships dedicated to making our inclusive content library and production work for and be available to as many people as possible.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, multiple cultural celebrations, and Mother’s Day, we’ve curated special image collections to inspire you. Whether you’re seeking images to uplift and support mental wellness, celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Haitian, South Asian, Mexican, AANHPI communities, or honor the incredible mothers in your life, we have the content in stock.

Lastly, with all of the recent attacks on all things related to DEI, we wanted to send a special thank you to all of our fearless supporters who have renewed their commitment to being more inclusive, creating opportunities for people of color, and pushing for fairness for all! Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏

Creator Spotlight for Haitian Heritage Month

Images by Redens Desrosiers

This month, as we commemorate Haitian Heritage Month, we’re happy to showcase the incredible talent of one of our Haitian contributors, Redens Desrosiers also known as Réx. We had the opportunity to sit down with Réx and gain valuable insights into the experiences and perspectives of being a Haitian photographer in New York and New Jersey.

pocstock: How has your Haitian heritage and experience as a first-generation American influenced your artistic vision and the subjects you choose to capture in your photography?

Réx: That’s a great question. Growing up in Haiti has left a big mark on me and my art. I’m all about showing the side of Haiti that doesn’t always make the headlines—the beauty that often gets overlooked. You know, here in the States, people mostly hear the negative aspects of Haiti. So, I’m on a mission to change that narrative by capturing the vibrant, unseen side of my homeland.

pocstock: As a self-taught photographer, what unique challenges did you face in honing your craft, and how did you overcome them?

Réx: As a self-taught photographer, my initial challenge was discovering my artistic identity. To overcome this, I decided to pivot and began immersing myself in studying movies instead.

pocstock: What are your thoughts on the impact of AI to creativity?

Réx: I’m not entirely sure. While AI can certainly boost creativity, could our society be at risk of going too far? What happens if we rely on AI so heavily that it replaces the unique human element we each contribute? It’s a question worth considering as we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of technology and human interaction.

pocstock: As someone who is self-taught, how have you navigated the process of creating opportunities for yourself in the competitive field of photography, and what advice would you give to others seeking to carve their own path in the industry, especially those from similar backgrounds?

Réx: Balancing the artistic and business aspects of this craft has been challenging. My advice on this topic is simple: ask for help. Seek out a mentor, seek out a photographer to assist and learn from, seek out the organization that can help you learn how to grow while having your LLC. My last piece of advice is making sure you have strong communication skills for networking, especially if you’re connecting with people who share your similar background or interests.
